Regional Chief Operating Officer, ANZ Banking Group Limited

Venky is a senior leader with 25 years of financial services experience in Transaction Banking, Operations, Credit, and Sales. He has developed a reputation as a trusted advisor via a track record of strategic foresight, shaping customer centric solutions, and leading teams through complex change.

Venky is currently the Regional COO for ANZ’s Institutional Division. His role includes end to end operational management responsibility for all institutional client needs, as well as property and administration for countries across Asia. In this role Venky has been able to draw on his experience and collaborative work style to strengthen ties with country CEO’s, thereby helping to deliver the strategy, protect the bank, and improve overall performance.

Additionally, Venky is the Payments & Cash Operations functional head for the International franchise. After taking on this role in 2012 he initiated and led a major transformation program to deploy new digital platforms to standardise processes, create scale, and strengthen controls. This resulted in a significant uplift in customer experience and productivity. During this period, Venky also provided executive oversight for the establishment of ANZ branches in Thailand and Myanmar, as well as sponsorship for a region-wide large scale offshoring program.

From 2007 to 2012 Venky was ANZ’s Global Head of Trade & Supply Chain Operations based in Australia. In this role he was responsible for global service delivery to the customer and for transforming the entire operating model. He led a large global team and successfully established market-leading service, risk and compliance practices. During the Global Financial Crisis, Venky helped ANZ successfully navigate through the volatility by quickly implementing practical actions across the global sites to mitigate risk.

Prior to ANZ, Venky was an Executive Director with ABN Amro, where he was responsible for the bank’s Global Service Centre in Chennai. Earlier in his career, he held sales and credit roles at GE Capital.

Throughout his career Venky has taken a keen interest in personal and professional development of staff. He assigns challenging opportunities to high potential staff, provides honest feedback, mentors junior staff, presents at training programs and participates in external speaking engagements.
