Sumit Dutta is the President Director of PT Bank HSBC Indonesia (“HSBC Indonesia”). He moved to Indonesia in August 2014 and currently oversees HSBC operations in Indonesia that spans over
more than 80 branches in 29 cities.

Moreover, in January 2019, Euromoney awarded HSBC as the Best Trade Finance Bank and Best Service for Trade Finance Bank in Indonesia, in the publication’s annual Trade Finance Survey 2019.

Prior to Indonesia, Mr Dutta was Chief Executive Officer for HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd where he oversaw an operation of 1,500 people across 18 branches and transactional offices. HSBC was rated the ‘Best Foreign Bank in Vietnam’ by Finance Asia for seven years consecutively from 2006-2012, and in 2012 won the Prime Minister’s Order of Merit for ‘Excellence in Banking and Contribution to the National Economy’.
Before Vietnam, Mr Dutta worked in New York, USA for four years in various roles including Global Head of e-Business for HSBC Commercial Banking, and then Head of Product Management and Head of Sales Management for HSBC USA. Prior to that, Mr Dutta worked in HSBC Hong Kong for five years from 2000-2005.

Mr Dutta joined HSBC in 1994 and has extensive experience of over 20 years in areas including commercial banking, retail banking and planning across many key markets for the HSBC Group including USA, Hong Kong and India.

Mr Dutta holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance and is a Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
