Neil Katkov, PhD, is the Senior Vice President of Celent’s Global Asian Financial Services Group and is based in the firm’s Tokyo office. His areas of expertise include the Asian financial services industry, financial services distribution channels, and compliance issues including anti-money laundering and business continuity planning.

Dr. Katkov produces Celent’s popular reports on IT spending trends in the Asian banking, securities, and insurance industries. He regularly advises leading financial institutions and technology vendors on their business, technology, and compliance strategies.

Dr. Katkov is widely quoted in the press, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Newsweek, Time, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, South China Morning Post, Dow Jones Newswires, Associated Press, American Banker, Securities Industry News, and The Banker. He has appeared on CNBC, CNN, and TV Tokyo and is a popular speaker at conferences in North America, Asia, and Europe.

Before joining Celent, Dr. Katkov worked in the international division of Tokyo-based Softbank. In this capacity, he helped define the firm’s business and marketing strategies. Previously, Dr. Katkov worked in the equity research department of Salomon Brothers Asia Limited. Dr. Katkov has lived for fifteen years in Tokyo and Taipei, where he engaged in research at the University of Tokyo and the National Central Library of Taiwan.

Dr. Katkov holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley and MA and PhD degrees from Harvard University. He is fluent in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
